The Ethereum Foundation has published a detailed roadmap for the Pectra network upgrade, scheduled for deployment on mainnet in the third quarter of 2026. The upgrade bundles several Ethereum Improvement Proposals focused on account abstraction, validator efficiency, and blob throughput increases.

Key features include EIP-7702, which enables smart contract wallets to sponsor gas fees for users, and EIP-7594, which doubles the number of data blobs per block to further reduce Layer 2 transaction costs. Testnet deployments are expected to begin in May.

Developers and node operators are encouraged to begin testing their infrastructure against the Pectra specifications, as the upgrade will require coordinated client updates across all major execution and consensus layer implementations.
